Carlo Ancelotti takes over the Brazilian national team: “A sign to the world”

Ancelotti's new team, the Seleção, has been in a sporting crisis for years and has already gone through several coaches. In March, the association parted ways with Dorival Júnior after a disgraceful 4-1 defeat in World Cup qualifying against arch-rivals Argentina. Brazil is currently in fourth place in the South American qualifiers with 21 points from 14 matches. The top six of ten teams qualify directly for next year's tournament, with the seventh-place finisher going into a relegation play-off.

Ancelotti, himself a former Italian international, is one of the most successful coaches in football. He has won the Champions League five times – twice with AC Milan and three times with Real Madrid. He has won league titles in all five major European leagues – in Germany in 2017 with FC Bayern – a feat no one had ever achieved before.
